Read moreWe rebuilt the same landing page three ways: a popular drag-and-drop page builder, a lightweight block theme and a hand-coded template. Same copy, same images, same form. Then we split real paid traffic evenly between them for four weeks.
On a mid-range Android phone over 4G, the page-builder version had a Largest Contentful Paint of 4.1 seconds. The block theme came in at 2.0s and the hand-coded page at 1.4s. Most of the difference came from unused CSS, render-blocking scripts and oversized images the builder added by default.
The hand-coded page converted 31% better than the page-builder version. The block theme landed in between. Bounce rate on mobile followed the same order.
